Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior official said the attack made him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
